Greetings Escanaba Township Citizens,

Because of a new format for the property tax bills and a folding / envelope stuffing machine at the Delta County Equalization Department we will be able to periodically send a one page news brief of things happening around the Township.

The new bill format has been used for many years by municipalities statewide. The tax bills will be laser printed on a single sheet of paper. You the tax payer will cut the bill along the dotted line and keep the top portion for your records. The bottom portion is to be sent with the payment to the treasurer. If you need any other receipt you will have to enclose a stamped self addressed envelope with the payment.

In other news, the Township Board has appropriated funds to conduct a junk collection again this year through the use of VOUCHERS. The vouchers will be good for ONE load of trash at the Delta County Landfill between July 1st and August 31st. The $30 value vouchers (good for trash, tires, computers, tv’s etc.) may be obtained from the Township Treasurer at the Township Hall any Wednesday between July 1st and August 31st. Multiple property owners are entitled to a maximum of two vouchers and the vouchers are on a first come, first serve basis (there is a maximum of 200 vouchers available). Please remember that household hazardous waste such as paints, herbicides, and fluorescent bulbs are accepted at the landfill for no charge. Scrap iron, metal and aluminum items can be brought to Coplan’s in Escanaba and abandoned or unused cars can be sold to Jake’s Boneyard in Gladstone. We encourage all citizens of Escanaba Township that have any unused items to use these services to keep the Township as clean as possible (so we do not have to enforce our blight ordinance).

Our Escanaba Township Fire Department has been in place for 25 years and finally received a federal grant for $75,000. This money will be used for radio’s, turnout gear, positive pressure fan and self contained breathing apparatus. There will be 14 airpacks of the newest style with safety alarms and one hour air bottles.

As many people are aware there is no such thing as a Township Road, though many Townships donate funds to help repair/replace bad roads in the Lake Bluff area. It will begin at Whitney Blvd and go south to the country club parking lot, with concrete curbs at Summit Dr and Tipperary Rd. The east ditch down to the drain and down the hill will also be paved. Several other smaller projects will be done throughout the Township with maintenance funds through the Delta County Road Commission.
